Week 3 Lecture

Week three's lecture was about camera angles and how they are applied in film.
In our tutorial we were asked to find out the meanings of ECU, WS, MS which turned
out to actually be the names of different shots; (extreme close-up, wide shot and mid shot)

"We learnt the language of the cinema"

Week 2 Lecture (timeline history of computing)

Week two's lecture was all about the history of computing and the internet.
We learnt about Charles Babbage and Alan Turning; both whom contributed
largely to the ever so popular invention of the computer. We also learnt about
the internet and world wide web and how its growing with new forms of
communication such as email and msn messenger.
This timeline history of computing...

Week 1 Lecture

In the first weeks lecture we were informed on new technology
and convergence through communication; also we were taught
about new and old media (from land lines, film, letters and new
media being mobile phones and the internet).

Screen Language

through camera angles:

ECU: (extreme close-up)

Close-ups are used in many ways, for many reasons. Close-ups are often used as cutaways from a more distant shot to show detail, such as character's emotions, or some intricate activity with their hands. Close cuts to characters' faces are used far more often in television than in movies; they are especially common in soap operas.

MS: (mid shot)

A mid shot contains the characters or a character from the waist up. From a mid shot viewers can see the gcharacters' faces more clearly as well as their interaction with other characters.

WS: (wide shot)

Video made in tutorial for blog.

Well we were asked in class to make a video and upload it to our blogs.
To show our understanding of different technologies.
We decided in a group to combine three different languages (English, Spanish & French) to say
"Hello", "How are you?" and "Welcome to our blog".

Hope you enjoy :)

Scavenger Hunt...

So we where asked to find answers to random questions without using wikipedia or google...
that's usually the first place I look for answers :S

Q1) What is the weight of the world's biggest pumpkin? How long did it take to grow?

So I found out using askjeeves.com that the world's largest pumpkin weighs 1878 pounds, grown by someone called Wes Dwelly (kinda similar to Wes Car?) Wes states that the pumpkin took over four and a half months to grow... He must have made alot of soup out of that!

Q4) How would you define the word 'glycomics'? In your own words, what does it really mean ? What does the term 'seagull manager' refer to?

Now the first thing that comes to mind when seeing the word glycomics is that it may be a word for a super cool comic store... but then i knew that couldn't be right but teh question did state in your own words which means sorry askjeeves... In all honesty the word glycomics would probably be some science word or something.
So i guess that's one word down only one more definition to go... seagull manager... Well this word could only mean two things.. either seagulls (the birds) have managers or in all sense this word could refer to a Manager who is very annoying and drops in a
ll the time and won't leave you alone.

Q5)What was David C
ronenberg's first feature film? Which of his films Had 'Blondie' in it?

The first feature film was Shivers released in 1975... directed by David Cronenberg.. featuring Blondie (Deborah Harry)

Q7) Why do phone numbers in Hollywood films start with '555'?

Due to the "low fill" of the 555 code, Hollywood was encouraged to quote 555 numbers in their productions to prevent real subscribers being harassed by members of the public trying out the numbers quoted on the screen. Generic and satirical advertisements and commercials often used 555 numbers too.

Q8) What is the cheapest form of travel from the Gold Coast to Sydney?

The cheapest way to travel from the Gold Coast to Sydney would have to be via car..
On average.. it would probably cost around $50 in fuel (cheaper than an air ticket.. except if you can get a cheap ticket for like $5, like they usually promote during slow seasons from Jetstar)

Some new convergent technologies.. making life easier or lazier?

Some new convergent technologies.. making life easier or lazier?

Picture this...

After a long week at work, it's time for some exercise with some.. But why not just take the easy road

and breeze your way through the weekend with as little exercise as possible. Just imagine standing the fat away..

welcome to the power plate.. It's kind of funny when they have these set up in shopping centers and your walking by an BAM there's a person jiggling in the middle of the shops.. weird hey :S

Here we have yet another example of new and easy technology. Just imagine how bored dogs get at home and how they long for some playing time when you get home from work. but... you just cannot be bothered.. Well stop right there, because now there is a new gadget in place.. THE HOMEMADE TENNIS BALL CANNON.. to entertain your pet over and over and over again... (talk bout communication between you and your pet)

Now we all know how annoying the phone is pressed up against your cheek.. Well there is something to help you through the middle of a very exciting conversation.. a phone pillow :D Now you can pretend to listen to someone and sleep at the same time.

Now all this talk about sleeping really makes you tired.. but after your little nap, how annoying is it when you bed has to be made.. yet again.. look no further, because guess what has been invented to help with very neat and active people.. Selfy the easy bed!!! Just imagine waking up and then not having to make your bed.. genius!
